Manager, Fair Valuation & Derivatives Accounting

Summary of Position

  • Manages the Model Validation, Fair Value and Derivatives Accounting function of the Finance Department and works closely with Capital Markets, Accounting Policy and Risk Management staff to meet the Bank’s objectives in this area.
  • Exercises the usual authority of a manager including personnel decisions regarding hiring, training and development, assigning work, performance management, salary actions, and initiating corrective actions and terminations.
  • Designs, develops, implements and documents the Bank’s fair valuation validation process. Provide advanced consultative services to bank areas responsible for using valuation and derivatives techniques both to educate and innovate. Evaluates results of validation process, recommends changes and/or updates to methodologies/models, and concludes as appropriate.
  • Ensures that fair valuation processes are designed and performed using approaches consistent with GAAP and related SEC interpretations. Reconciles all fair valuation techniques in the Bank both to ensure consistency and to identify issues.
  • Provides leadership in identifying and evaluating newly emerging issues and accounting standards in the areas of fair valuation and hedging; then assess the Bank’s accounting policies and procedures, proposing revisions/refinements as warranted as they may affect the Bank in the future. Monitors evolving practices in fair valuation methods and related technologies as well as proposed changes to related accounting standards.
  • Responsible for all fair-value related accounting functions including: preparation of related disclosures for SEC reporting and CRS/FRS purposes; creation/update of the Banks detailed accounting fair value whitepapers for new instruments and/or changes associated with accounting literature, valuation models, assumptions, and/or valuation inputs; coordination/performance of the Bank’s model calibration analysis, and creation/maintenance of all fair value accounting-related procedures and documentary evidence of procedures performed.
  • Responsible for the creation/maintenance of the Bank’s hedge accounting strategy documents and related accounting policy memorandums. Works closely with personnel from various business units (MMA, Treasury, Capital Markets, Accounting Policy, and Risk) to evaluate potential hedge accounting strategies and to coordinate appropriate assessment, documentation and approval as needed.
  • Responsible for all daily hedge inception documentation including inception hedge effectiveness assessment. Also responsible for all monthly ongoing assessments of hedge effectiveness for all open accounting hedges, monthly embedded derivatives testing, and monthly loan modification testing.
  • Responsible for all derivatives/hedge accounting-related monthly journal entries and monthly general ledger account reconciliations. Responsible for the research, attribution and documentation of derivative/hedge accounting related income statement fluctuations.
  • Prepares all derivative/hedge accounting-related disclosures for SEC reporting and CRS/FRS purposes. Also responsible for the ongoing creation/maintenance of all derivatives/hedge accounting-related procedures and documentary evidence of procedures performed.
  • A voting member of the Asset and Liability Committee (ALCO) and the Pricing Advisory Group. PAG is a subcommittee of ALCO and is responsible for fair valuation methodologies and assumption reviews for market risk modeling.
  • Performs special projects and other analyses as requested.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable policies, procedures and regulations to ensure safe and sound business operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or economics; MBA, CPA, CFA or CMA required
  • 8 or more years of fair value/derivatives accounting and/or finance, capital markets-related experience
  • In-depth knowledge of derivatives and fair valuation accounting and related SEC rules
  • In-depth knowledge of fair valuation techniques and models (e.g. Summit and QRM)
  • Strong knowledge of financial institutions and financial instruments
  • Sound general knowledge of capital markets and financial instrument design/use
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in MS Office
  • Excellent leadership and managerial skills to manage and motivate employees and others throughout the Bank.

Senior IT System Engineer

Summary of Position

  • Responsible for working with developers, providing architecture design and system support for Internet and distributed application environment
  • Provides primary administration and configuration for Web sphere, Apache and Tomcat systems
  • Supports multiple environments (development, QA, user test and production) by developing build and deployment scripts
  • Provides System Administration support for Sun Solar is servers, including such tasks as managing system backups, building new servers, upgrading system tools and proactively monitoring systems.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Sun Solar is, Linux, Web sphere, Tomcat and Apache servers
  • Strong understanding of distributed and Internet-based applications
  • Seven years experience with supporting application development using Java, PVCS/CVS/Subversion, build and deployment scripts (Shell, Ant and Python scripts)
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment
  • Experience with IBM's Web Content Management considered a plus
  • Experience with Linux Operating System
  • Demonstrated experience with SAN, Legato Net worker and Solar is Containers/Zones
  • Familiarity with Oracle database considered a plus
  • Experience with Virtual Infrastructure technologies considered a plus
  • Experience with HP Open View considered a plus
  • Experience with SAN-based technologies considered a plus
  • Strong writing skills to document server/application architecture
